Mwani Qatar, Muntajat sign MoU to benefit from Hamad Port Services

H.E. Ministry of Transport and Communications signs a Memorandum of Understanding between Mwani Qatar and Muntajat

In the presence of His Excellency Mr. Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti, Minister of Transport and Communications, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Ports Management Company ‘Mwani Qatar’ and H.E. Engineer Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi President and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Petroleum. Muntajat, the marketing arm of Qatar Petroleum, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Qatar Ports Management Company ‘Mwani Qatar’ to collaborate and benefit from the services of Hamad Port for a five-year renewable period.

Under the MoU, signed by Captain Abdulla Al-Khanji CEO of Mwani Qatar and Mr. Abdulrahman Ali Al Abdullah, CEO of Muntajat at the Ministry of Transport of Communications on August 7, 2017, shipments will occur through Hamad to various destinations around the world. As per the MoU, Muntajat will export through Hamad Port a number of its shipments to its various end destinations around the world while Mwani Qatar will be in charge of providing container loading and unloading services at Hamad Port berths, as well as facilitating and developing support services for containers and trucks.

H.E. Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti said, “The Memorandum of Understanding signed today is a result of close cooperation between Muntajat and Mwani Qatar which will enhance Hamad Port’s contribution to the national economy and to work to achieve and support Qatar National Vision 2030. This partnership is an ideal model for the joint work of local institutions to support the local economy and the goals that Qatar seeks to achieve under the wise leadership of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.”

He pointed out that Hamad Port has been successful at the regional and international level in a short period of time. It has provided a wide range of international maritime transport routes and will be able to contribute to economic diversification through the creation of new international lines and transforming the region into a regional trading hub.

The signed MoU is an important step towards boosting the Qatari petrochemical exports through Hamad Port, which reached 2.2 million metric tons or equivalent to 150 thousand equivalent containers annually, representing 75% of the volume of container exports of Qatar.” said H.E. Engineer Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi. “This achievement not only contributes to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030, but is also an implementation of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, to build on our local capabilities, ensuring the global confidence in Qatar and the quality of its products.”


Mr. Abdulrahman Ali Al Abdullah, CEO of Muntajat said, “The MoU with Mwani Qatar is another key milestone for Muntajat, the beginning of a long-term relationship to leverage the capabilities of Hamad Port and the integration of Qatari companies to deliver outstanding services to customers across the globe. The MoU will enable direct shipments from Hamad Port to reach more than 2000 customers in more than 135 countries efficiently and quickly. This collaboration with further enhance Muntajat’ s potential and competitiveness in global markets.”

Captain Abdulla Al Khanji, CEO of Mwani Qatar welcomed the signing of the MoU with Muntajat. He also pointed that the MoU will contribute to enhance Hamad Port’s capacity in the field of exports and further establish its position as a major gateway to world trading.

Al Khanji stressed that Mwani Qatar is keen to build strong and fruitful partnerships with local and international companies to support the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and promote trade between the State of Qatar and the rest of the world. He added that the collaboration with Muntajat will contribute in achieving Mwani Qatar’s goals and to consolidate its position locally and enhance its presence on regionally and internationally as a provider of integrated logistical services.

Mr. Yousef Darwish Fakhro, Executive Director of Marketing and Sales at Muntajat said, “We are proud of this collaboration with Mwani Qatar. The MoU is an important achievement for both Qatar and Muntajat as it marks the start of direct shipping operations from Hamad Port to six main destinations: Shanghai Port in China, Mandra Port and Nhava Sheva in India, Sohar and Salalah Ports in Oman and Port Dier Banji in Turkey. There are also plans to expand destinations and services in the near future.”
